Hoërskool Ferrum
Hoërskool Ferrum, a public school situated in Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal, RSA.In 2015, the principal, Charmaine Myburgh presented the idea of the school having its own Astro hockey field to the SBL. After 5 years of planning the astro is now complete and has been handed over to Hoerksool Ferrum by Sporturf in July 2020.
FIH Approved 18 mm sand-dressed Turf was installed. A blue surface with the line markings and their school “Falcon” logo has been tufted from the same pile height turf and cut into the surface. Slagcrete, Newcastle constructed the stabilized base ready for the e-layer and turf to be laid. Musco Lighting supplied and installed the 250 Lux lighting facility with 4 – 18.3 m galvanized steel poles with steps and safety cables, including 16 – 1500 watt Green Generation Lighting luninaries.
Hoërskool Kroonstad High School – “BLOUES”
“Bloues” has always been known as the top hockey school in the Northern Free State and play hockey in the Goudveld, Fezile Dabie en Valldriehoek-leagues. It was decided to have a blue playing surface in line with the school’s nickname “Bloues”.
The pitch is being construction to FIH standards and the turf will be classified as a “National Class 1”. which means that certain national competitions can be offered at the school. It is also the first artificial hockey pitch in the Fezile Dabi district. (Constructed in 2019)
Hoërskool Linden
Hoërskool Linden, a public High School situated in Linden, Randburg, Gauteng, RSA.Hoërskool Linden is the first Afrikaans school in the Johannesburg North area with a synthetic hockey surface. The surface will be water based and has 250 lux floodlights for after-hour games. This new facility will allow for greater community participation as it will be made available for tournaments and training for other schools and clubs in the area. Sporturf worked closely with the Asto Project Team to help the school complete the project and deliver a surface all are proud of.
The Process
FIH Approved Global 13 mm water-based turf installed on a 15 mm in-situ elastic layer as shock pad, comprising of SBR Rubber crumb mixed with a binder. As a water-based field FIH requires that the irrigation system delivers a reduced volume of water at an application rate of 1 mm (l/m2). The turf has a curly mono-filament yarn with a pile height of 13 mm. Musco Lighting supplied and installed the 250 Lux lighting facility with 4 – 18.3 m galvanized steel poles with steps and safety cables, including 16 – 1500 watt Green Generation Lighting luminaries.
Hoërskool Secunda
Hoerskool Secunda, a public High School in Secunda, Mpumalanga, RSA. FIH National Approved Global 18 mm sand-dressed Turf green playing surface with blue surrounds. The turf has a curly mono-filament yarn with a pile height of 18 mm. The turf is installed on a stabilized constructed base with a 15 mm insitu e-layer comprising of SBR rubber and crumb mixed with rubber. As a sand-dressed surface silica sand is imported and spread over the playing surface. The stabilized base was constructed by a local Company within Secunda which assisted the school with the financial commitment in having a synthetic hockey field installed View Gallery
